During her maternity leave, Elizabeth wrote and sang several songs for her son and was struck by how much joy her sharing music brought to him. At only a few weeks old, his ability to communicate was enhanced through music - by laughing and 'singing' along - and their time singing and dancing together strengthened their mother-son bond. Having worked for several years as a professional musician and actor, friends encouraged Elizabeth to share her songs with a younger audience. Thus, School of Rock-a-bye Babies - her second 'baby' - was born! Elizabeth wants to introduce other parents to the transformative joys of making music with their children. Taking time to make music as a family will strengthen your familial bonds while teaching your child to communicate, cooperate and listen with increased confidence. Over the years, Elizabeth has played various instruments in orchestras, quartets and school bands, has sung in many choirs and rock bands, and has performed as a solo singer/songwriter. Elizabeth studied classical violin as a member of The Academy of Music at the Mount Royal College Conservatory in Calgary, Canada and was a member of the Calgary Youth Orchestra for several years. Elizabeth holds an undergraduate degree in English (Drama and Theatre) from McGill University in Montreal, Canada and a post-graduate degree in Public Policy (Human Rights) from University College London. Since giving birth, Elizabeth has become increasingly interested in child development, particularly Attachment Theory. |
